AI-Powered Food Analysis & Third-Party Data Sharing

GainCut uses Alibaba DashScope (Qwen-VL), a third-party AI service, to analyze food photos. When you use the AI photo analysis feature:

What is sent: Your meal photo (compressed JPEG, 1024px max dimension) is transmitted to DashScope's API endpoint.
Who receives it: Alibaba Cloud (DashScope), Beijing MaaS workspace, located in China.
Purpose: The photo is analyzed by Qwen-VL to identify foods and estimate calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat content.
Data retention: Photos are processed transiently for analysis and are not permanently stored by the AI service. Analysis results (food names, macros) are saved locally on your device.
Consent: GainCut asks for your explicit consent before sending any photo to DashScope. You can use the app without AI by logging meals manually.

No personal data — no names, email addresses, account identifiers, device IDs, or location data — is ever sent to DashScope.

On-Device Processing

All food analysis and data processing happens on your device or through direct API calls to AI services. No user data is stored on external servers.

Apple Health Data

GainCut reads your weight and body fat data from Apple Health with your explicit permission. This data never leaves your device and is used solely to calculate your personalized daily calorie targets.

Food Photos

Photos you take for food analysis are sent to a third-party AI service (DashScope) for food identification. Photos are processed transiently and are not permanently stored on any server. Analysis results are saved locally on your device using SwiftData.

No Analytics or Tracking

GainCut contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no crash reporting services, and no tracking of any kind.

Subscriptions

GainCut Pro subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple through your Apple ID. GainCut does not have access to your payment information.
